Hi 5

Good Morning Room 9

Over the past few weeks we have talked a lot about David Street School's Hi-5 Values and what these measn to us in our learning, our classroom and the playground.

 How have you used the school values?

Today you need to really get your thinking cap on and share an example of your have used you used ONE of the values in either the classroom or in the playground.
In the comment write about ONE example when you used a school value.  Have your used CURIOSITY, EXCELLENCE, RESPONSIBILITY, HONESTY or RESPECT?

Success criteria (this is our checklist)

  • Write about 1 value and how you have used or followed it.
  • Be specific- the more information you give the better!
  • Punctuation (full stops, capital letters).
  • Your name.

Dare to Be Square

Morning Room 9

We have been talking about how we are all unique.  We have some things that are the same as people and many that are different.  We have talked about that there is only one unique YOU!

We have been really enjoying listening and singing to Guy Sebastian's song "Dare to Be Square".

Think about what makes you unique or special.  It could be something you do, how you act, a part of your looks or your character (think of those words we looked at last week that are on the wall).

Write 2 sentences that describe what makes you unique and special.  You may even write what you think your parents/family would say makes your unique to them.

Hopefully we can get our families to write on our blog why they think you are unique as well!

As you write remember a good sentence has five key things:
* capital letter
* full stop
* nouns (names of things) that your sentence is about
* verbs (actions)
* makes sense

If you want it to be a powerful sentence you will try including some adjectives or similes to create a picture in the reader's mind.

I look forward to reading your sentences.

The NZ Flag

Yesterday we looked at where our NZ flag came from and the five things that make a good flag.

We discussed the meanings behind the current NZ Flag and the proposed change of flag.
After much discussion we had a class vote and it was VERY close with 12 for the current flag and 11 for the new flag.

What were your reasons for voting either for the current flag or the new flag?

Remembering Summer

Morena Ruma Iwa

Wow it is already March, which means our summer months are coming to an end and autumn will start to show itself to us.

We have been at school for 5 full weeks now and our summer holidays are becoming a distant memory.
This week we are going to recall our memories of summer time in our writing.

Write a sentence telling us about a memory you have from summer.
Remember to include the 5 things a sentence must have and see if you can create a picture in the readers mind.

We will be sharing our sentences during the week.
